Description
As a third generation family member associated with tea estates in Sri Lanka, Kuma Palani established Kardoz Tea in Connecticut, USA in 1999. First, some quick family tea history.
Kuma's grandfather arrived in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) from India around 1918 and was associated with tea estates that were being developed. Kuma's father and uncle, influenced by their father's association with tea, continued the tradition and purchased Wooten Estate in Sri Lanka in 1961.
Wooten Estate provided the opportunity and helped to build an early interest in Kuma's understanding of growing and processing fine tea. Some of the early childhood tea memories flash back to going to the factory and experiencing the wonderful aroma. Wooten Estate located in Dimbulla continues to be part of the family and is managed by the first cousins.
