Title

Kanata Symphony Orchestra Ottawa Canada

Description

Since its inception in 1981, the Kanata Symphony has succeeded in providing the community with a rich heritage of orchestral concerts and events. The orchestra was originally founded as the Kanata Music Association (KMA) by a handful of people with the rather ambiguous aim of making and possibly performing music together.

While the orchestra was in it's infancy, the music was mainly classical in nature but its content was largely dependent on the musicians available and the instruments they played. The fledgling group was originally directed by Nancy Eadie, a young music teacher and violinist who threw all her energy into making the orchestra succeed and who has been an inspiration ever since.

The KMA has since spawned to produce the Kanata Symphony, the Kanata Choral Society and most recently the Kanata Youth Orchestra. These thriving independent groups each perform regularly and on occasion together. In addition to the orchestra's regular seasons, several Symphony events have been sponsored and supported by the former City of Kanata. The orchestra in return has provided music for many of the city's engagements and community events such as summer music in the parks, Canada Day celebrations, volunteer recognition and others. More recently the orchestra sponsored a successful benefit concert for the Kanata Food Cupboard, and over the past few years has been supporting the Royal Canadian Legion with popular evenings of dinner, light classical music and entertainment.
