Title

Woodard Broadcasting

Description

The Woodards became involved in Calhoun County in 1985 when they moved their AM station (WEYY) from Talladega to Oxford and changed the call letters to WOXR. In 1989 the FCC granted a construction permit for the first commercial FM in Oxford and it was bought by the Woodards. A consultant group was hired to research the area to determine what specific format could be utilized to reach the largest portion of the coverage area. It was decided that the Adult Contemporary format would fit this area and target the largest segment of listeners in Calhoun County, the 18-49 years old. After some tweaking of the format, WVOK-FM now has a Hot A/C format playing music from the 80's, 90's and Now!

WVOK-AM 1580 is a 2500 watt full time station with an Oldies format targeting the 35 plus listening group. WVOK-AM plays Oldie Rock & Roll from the late 50's, 60's and early 70's with the Core years being 62-69.
