Title
Joint Replacement Institute - World leaders in hip & knee joint replacement and minimally invasive hip resurfacing
Description
Excerpted from the website:
- In the 1980’s while still at UCLA, Dr. Harlan Amstutz began to consider various factors that ultimately led to the formation of the Joint Replacement Institute. The success of the liver and heart transplant programs at UCLA Medical Center pointed to the efficiency and productivity of employing a team approach to delivering patient care wherein all aspects are directed to the specific condition to be evaluated and treated. Joint replacement programs in Europe were similarly structured. At UCLA, however, operating room time was always inadequate and there were many practical and patient care concerns related to not having an OR team dedicated to orthopaedics. In addition, staff, faculty, residents and researchers were dispersed into many offices around the campus and this was not conducive to efficient management of a “world class” orthopaedic program. In the hope that with “Department” status the problems encountered by the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery could be more effectively addressed, Dr. Amstutz sought to upgrade the Division throughout the 1980’s culminating in a resounding rejection by the Dean in 1989.
