As the Internet has grown, so has the marketplace for antiques and collectibles. Collectors have flocked to online auction sites trying to find a bargain. Instead of a bargain, many have been frustrated with this type of buying and can't seem to get what they want for a reasonable price. Collectors want to know that the dealer they are bargaining with is reputable and will be responsible if something goes wrong. There is a lot of finesse needed to be a good collector. You need time to inspect the item, time to determine the item's value and time to speak with the dealer to get its history and come to reasonable terms. Unlike the fine auction houses of the world, that spend a great deal of time authenticating and pricing their items, online auctions tend to require a leap of faith. Many times this leap is not earned by the auctioning dealer.
Dealers who truly value the art of collecting, try to sell items online as if a customer came into their own brick and mortar shop. They want the collector to know why their item is of value, its history and it's collecting potential. We give dealer plenty of room to describe their showcase items. We provide a place to put a lot of pictures so you can see an item from all angles. We allow the buyer to ask question of the dealer before they purchase an item. We hold our dealers to a very high standard. We make them responsible to fix problems they may have caused and give a buyer recourse in the event of a problem. But you know, when there are good rules in place, there seldom is a problem. When there is a good opportunity to communicate fully, every one comes out the winner.
Company Background
JosephMarc is owned by Joseph Andaloro and Marc Fischer. Joe and Marc are technology executives with 50 years combined experience in creating technology solutions for some of the countries largest institutions. Joe and Marc have turned their love of antiques and collecting into a technology labor of love. Joe and Marc live in Pennsylvania and New Jersey respectively. They saw the collectibles market on the internet was overburdened with fees. The biggest online auctions and malls in the market charge enough fees to raise the price of collectibles more that 20% over the brick and mortar stores. Dealers are then forced to slash their own profit margins by offering cut rate prices to compete. There is no winner here, dealers make less and buyers pay more. JosephMarc is willing to take a chance that if we just take a little from a lot of dealers, everyone will win in the end.
