Description
Pat and Jon were both born and raised in Northampton County which is located in Eastern Pennsylvania. After college we settled in the area where we raised our
four children. To date our sons and daughters have blessed us with 9 grandchildren. Jon began carving in 1991 as a hobby and made it his full-time occupation in 1995 after retiring from the education field. Jon is a self-taught carver with no formal training. Jon does all the carving and painting himself while Pat handles all other aspects of the business.
The inspiration of many of our carvings comes from the past, both distant and recent. Some are influenced by legendary figures from the Middle Ages, others by somber stone carvings which grace the gothic architecture in France where Jon completed his graduate studies. Nevertheless, each carving, whether real or imaginary, serious or whimsical, is an expression of Jon's experience and each emerges by his hands as a uniquely designed and executed piece. Each of our collectables has a patina reminiscent of an 'old world' charm. Indeed, the deliberate simplicity of design, the refined carving technique and the elegant hand-rubbed finish all combine to create our style which we call 'Sophisticated Primitive".
