How johnminor.com was Designed, and How it is Updated
Basically, I use Blogger to publish my content to my server and also to syndicate the content via atom, which is also stored on my server. The updates are published to my server via my own xml format as well as in atom syndication. I use php to parse the xml and convert the content to html, readable by browsers. The output is pure html content, and no style. I use CSS for all styling, including layout (I do not use tables for layout).
Other parts of the website also use PHP in other ways. For instance, I wrote a PHP script to take the Quotes content (which is published to my server via xml) and display a random quote on the main page of the site. PHP also makes updating the site easy, since each section of each page that is repeated on other pages (such as the webmail login to the left) is simply a reference to a separate PHP file. I just update that single file and all pages are instantly the same.
