Description

Judith S. Pinnolis is a Reference Librarian at the Goldfarb Library at Brandeis University where she has served as Information Desk Supervisor, Publications Coordinator and the Training Coordinator since 1992. Ms. Pinnolis holds a Certificate from the Columbia University, Uriel Weinreich Program in Yiddish Language and Literature (2001); the M.S. in Library Information Science from Simmons College (1992); M.M. from The College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati (1978), and B.A., cum laude, in Music from Newcomb College of Tulane University (1975). Her graduate Thesis was: An Analysis of Selected Works of the American Composer Miriam Gideon (1906- ) in Light of Contemporary Jewish Musical Trends.

Pinnolis has been active in music librarianship through speaking at international conferences, professional organizations and writing. Her Jewish music scholarship extends to journals and encyclopedias including Encyclopedia Judaica (13 articles forthcoming in the 2006 edition); Women and Music in America Since 1900: An Encyclopedia (2002); and Reader's Guide to Judaism (2000).

In addition to her musicology work, Pinnolis is responsible for various general reference subjects and has written several Library Guides to Research for Brandeis University including: Guide to Yiddish Studies; Guide to Biographical Information; Citing Your Sources; Finding Book Reviews; English and American Literature; Poetry, Short Stories, Linguistics; Psychology; Guide to American Studies; and the Guide to American History. From 1992-2002 she served as editor of the Brandeis Library Guide, and Introduction to Brandeis University Libraries.
