John has been licensed in the real estate profession for over 27 years. He is a graduate of The Citadel and served on The Board of Visitors from 1988-1999. John is a graduate of the Executive Program of Professional Management Education at the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also a graduate of the program for Senior Managers in Government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. John served as Southeastern Federal Power Administrator from 1988-1995 by appointment of The Secretary of The United States Department of Energy. He is the immediate past President of South Carolina REALTORS® Land Institute and currently serves as National Vice President of REALTORS® Land Institute. He received the Thad Cwik Leadership Award from South Carolina REALTORS® Land Institute in 2001 and was awarded Land REALTOR® of the Year in South Carolina in 2002. He is licensed to practice real estate in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Mississippi.
He and his wife are members of First Presbyterian Church. He is married to The Honorable Carolyn C. Matthews, Administrative Law Judge. They have three daughters and live in Columbia South Carolina.
