Description

With over 80 years of service to the Washington, DC community, the history of the JLW is a reflection of the changing needs in our Nation's Capital. Founded in 1912, the JLW is an organization of women committed to:

As an organization of women committed to honoring and celebrating diversity while focusing on shared values, we strive to be a vibrant presence in the lives of the women and children in the greater metropolitan area of the District of Columbia - serving as a resource throughout the community to effect positive change, seek common ground and inspire hope. Any woman committed to improving her community, regardless of race, religion or national origin, is welcome and encouraged to join the Junior League of Washington.

Beginning in our fiscal year 1999/2000, the Junior League of Washington membership voted to focus on the issue of literacy: "an individual's ability to read, write, and speak English and compute and problem solve at levels of proficiency necessary to: function on the job and in society, achieve one's goals, and develop one's knowledge and potential."
