Jersey Knights Soccer Club

Description

Originally founded as the Central Jersey Cosmos, The Jersey Knights Soccer Club evolved in 1994 with 6 original boys teams and no place to play. Over the years our program has expanded to all competitive age groups, U-12 to U-23 and our girls program founded in 1998, continues to grow steadily. The Club was founded by five individuals with varying soccer experiences, but with an abiding love of the game and children who wanted more than they were getting at their local clubs. One of the founding members, Bob Reasso, Head Coach of the Rutgers University Men's Program, helped mold our initial search for identity with his philosophy that clubs should train players not just teams. That goal has been our cornerstone. To that end we set out to provide our players with the best coaching and training available.

From the beginning, all of our coaching staff has been licensed and experienced in play as well as coaching. Our coaches and trainers come from the various colleges and high schools from around New Jersey. From inception, parents were prohibited, with rare exception, from occupying positions on the coaching and training staff. Over time, we have discovered that team management was as important a team function as coaching and parents have served us well in that capacity.

Today, Mr. Pedro Lopes, Head Coach at New Jersey Institute of Technology and former 1st Assistant Coach of the Rutgers University Men's Team serves as our Director of Coaching. Many of his colleagues and competitors in the college ranks currently serve on our staff. Many of our Alumni have gone on to successful college and professional careers as players and as coaches. Tim Howard, member of the U.S. National Team and current starting goalkeeper for Manchester United in the English Premiership was on of our 1st "graduates". Jeff Zaun formerly of the Metrostars and the Chicago Fire , Tim Mulqueen of the Kansas City Wizards , JD Martin of the Chicago Fire, and Dustin Shepard of the Metrostars have had success in professional leagues as players and coaches. Scores of our former players currently occupy the college ranks on all levels with a significant majority playing at the Division I level.
