Description
Jacobs' Upholstery was originally formed in 1959 by William and M.H. Jacobs, father and son. They were both working at a local paper mill when they started pursuing their hobby of restoring cars. After they had done a few auto interiors and then a few pieces of furniture for their homes, people started asking them to do their furniture. This is the way a lot of upholstery businesses get started.
While William continued at the paper mill, M.H. rented a building in downtown Clarkston, Washington and started their business. The first thing they did was to hire an experienced upholsterer so that they could learn a few of the trade secrets instead of having to reinvent the wheel.
Business went well, but in 1962, M.H. moved his family, wife and three children to Hamilton, Montana. Three more children were born to the family, the business went well. M.H. employed several people in the area and also a few more family members. At one time all three of his brothers worked with him.
