How the site came to be

High atop a remote mountain peak somewhere in the Himalayas, there is an ancient temple populated by a group of benevolent monks.

Not long ago, a stranger came to the temple. He was a web designer who had become lost while mountain climbing. Near death from exposure to the harsh climate of the mountains when he arrived, the monks spent weeks nursing him back to health.

During those long weeks, the monks and the web designer began to learn to communicate with each other. One thing that helped in this was the iPod which the stranger had brought with him.

The monks were fascinated by this modern marvel, and delighted in the music it produced, and the sounds of the audio books the designer had loaded on it at the beginning of his travels. Eventually, though, all the books had been listened to, and the music became nearly as repetitious as a pop radio station.

As it so happened, the designer was also very proficient in wireless communications. He showed the kind monks (which by this time, he had fondly nick-named “The iMonks”) how they could log on to the internet with his lap-top. Finding himself short of funds, and feeling an obligation to the monks to live within the law, he relied on several websites to find free content for his iPod… and the music played again.

The leader of the iMonks was very fond of indy and emo, and one day after several hours of listening to the iPod, he entered a deep meditation. For days, he sat in the courtyard of the temple. A fierce snow storm, a fire in the temple kitchen, and even the drunken antics of the temple’s head scribe did nothing to distract him.

Finally, one day, the master opened his eyes and said, “Dude, we should make an MP3 blog.”

And thus was iPod Nirvana born.
