Description

Jennifer (aka electricpoptart) is a mid-twenties writer/graduate student in Central Coastal California whose major hobbies are computers and fandom. I don’t count popular culture and writing anymore because my career is about making and analyzing both, but I enjoy the work. I am the author of two unpublished novels, one written when I was sixteen in chemistry class, and one more recently, and I’m at work on my third novel about young adult literature and unkosher love affairs.

An ardent progressive, Linux user as of December 2004, Firefox devotee as of November 2004, what else is odd and unique about me? Well, I understand English, French, Latin, and Old English; my research specialties are medieval English literature and contemporary popular culture. I went to college at Tulane University in New Orleans and now am in my fourth year of graduate school in California. I have a Master’s, cook excellent soups, and I love to travel — in the past year, I’ve been to New York, Chicago and points west on a cross-country drive, San Antonio, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles, and have been to Nova Scotia and Boston in the past two years. This year I hope to get to London as well as saints’ shrines throughout Western Europe. I’m also a dancer who has decided late in the game to get a little training in modern dance. More recently, I have taken up fencing (foil), and I’m also doing my part for the environment by getting a bike and using it, even though I love my car. I also love music, particularly electronica, “europop,” nerdcore, and anything danceable. Also, because I’m a cliche, Tori Amos. I’d bore you about my favorite authors, but there are too many. So I’ll just say: Robin Hobb was this year’s discovery, and thumbs up there.

I acquired this domain on 02.14.2001 as a birthday gift from my best friend Charissa. Since then, I’ve picked up a number of sites and lost a few and am pretty happy with those I’m currently involved with (which means for me, eight is enough to maintain) these days. Since I am an old-school nerd and take my computing seriously (please. I migrated to Linux because I’m ‘taking a stand’ about open-source software and because I’m tired of spyware), this site is mostly hand-coded in gEdit, even though the blog part is Wordpress 1.5, and it’s tested in Firefox on a Fedora Core 3, because they don’t have IE for Linux. The various graphics on my site were either done in Paint Shop Pro 7 or The Gimp 2.2.
