The Early Years Unit
Our Early Years Unit opened in March 2003 for children of 1½ to 7 years. The school rapidly established a good reputation and now has over 160 pupils of 26 different nationalities. The campus includes large brightly coloured classrooms, a computer suite, a swimming pool and indoor and outdoor playgrounds all of which are equipped with the very best resources for the young. Our experienced and enthusiastic international teachers provide a wide range of practical daily activities and experiences, which meet the needs and learning styles of every individual and are designed to bring out the best in every child. Set in a modern and spacious building in the heart of Phnom Penh, iCAN British International School provides children with a safe and friendly environment, encouraging learning, creativity and personal growth.
Before entering the Foundation Stage, all children in our Day Care and Pre-School classes enjoy a weekly program which includes music and singing, rhymes, stories, numbers and letters, vocabulary games, art and craft, modeling, sand and water play, building, gym, movement and ball skills, swimming, role-play and general play with small and large puzzles and apparatus.
The classrooms are designed and resourced to develop and maintain confidence and a sense of belonging. All activities aim to extend this confidence and independence and to ensure a high level of interest and participation. Teachers and learning assistants encourage the children to investigate and explore the world around them as well as ensuring they learn to respect other people and their property.
