The first tropical storm of the season will no doubt leave a lasting impression on many people across the Southeast. The storm drenched many areas in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Today, Virginia was hammered with flooding rains that actually extended down in to North Carolina. Cities like Raleigh, NC and Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA were impacted by localized flooding. And of course, last night, Savannah, GA experienced wind damage as the stronger rainbands of Alberto moved through. Now, the storm is moving out in to the Atlantic where it should become a large extra-tropical storm with a huge windfield. The remainder of the tropics look fairly quiet with only a few pieces of energy (tropical waves) making their way westward across the Atlantic. I do not see any new development within the next five days at least.

Note that I will be in Savannah, GA with colleague James Lewis on Saturday (see graphic below). Jesse Bass, Eddie Smith and Todd Ferebee will be in Morehead City as we all participate in another series of Lowe's Hurricane Readiness Fairs. Come on out and say hello!
