Tom was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. After serving in The United States Navy with American Forces Radio, he attended The Ohio State University, majoring in psychology and Communications. From there he managed and operated several movie theaters in Columbus. He has spent most of the last two decades working in the marketing, advertising, sales and promotion business.
In 1992 he created the consumer advocate "position" marketing campaign for a small, locally owned body shop in Columbus, Ohio. It seemed to be the right thing at the right time. By the end of 1993, the shop's growth had more than doubled. Soon the success story was being featured in all the top industry trade magazines across the country. Recently this shop was sighted as one of the top 100 most influencial shops in the country because of this advertising campaign.
As a result, in 1994 to 1998 Tom partnered with the body shop's owner and founded a marketing company that provided the same campaign to independent body shop and auto glass shop owners.
