Bittersweet Graduation

Tomorrow my baby sister graduates from highschool. I’ve got alot of mixed feelings about the day, as does she. It’s hard when your parents are divorced, and they really don’t speak with each other. Events like this remind you of that wall between them and at the same time you feel like you’re serving two masters. My father is flying in tomorrow morning for the event, and staying for maybe 24 hours. At the same time, my mother’s parents are coming into town as well for the event.

How do you handle both sides at once within a set time limit? Both have invested money to come, one side having tighter funds (my father) than the other. They both will be at the graduation of course, but after that my sisters, mother, her parents, and I are going out for dinner. My father is coming back to the house with my gran and having a quiet meal with her, and I’ll make the most of the few hours I have with him then.

I feel so shitty about the whole situation. I myself haven’t seen my father in like a year and a half. My grandparents since November. I miss my Dad, I really do, and I don’t get enough time with him at all. And he’s spending 400 USD that he really doesn’t have to go see my sister walk, give her a hug, and be left behind. I can’t even imagine how he feels. Yes, he had an affair, yes he hurt my mother, but it still feels like he’s being punished. My family was even being cold about giving him transportation to and from the airport, not to mention the graduation. This whole situation is just why I can’t even bring myself to walk for my graduation. I can’t bear to see, to experience things like this. You love, and yet at the same time, although you work your hardest not to, you hurt those you love.
