- After years of anticipation in science fiction and among technology futurists, holographic technology is finally beginning to appear in commercial products. Holographic data storage disks were recently launched. There are new holographic keypads that appear in mid-air and register mid-air finger "touch" through infrared feedback. Holographic, touch-sensitive animated projections on shop windows let sidewalk shoppers browse merchandise and even place orders after the shop is closed. Three-dimensional holographic television is moving closer and closer toward commercial reality. Holographic images (sometimes added to botanical biologics) are used to provide safe identification for currency, medical products and other security documents, credit cards, recognition cards, and other applications.
