- Two respected Cleveland-based firms – Hodell Chain and National Screw and Tack – both begun in the late 1800s, together formed The National Screw and Manufacturing Company. The company provided the foundation for an entity known today as Hodell-Natco Industries. Among other products, National Screw produced standard and specialty fasteners, while its affiliated company, Hodell Chain, manufactured welded and weldless chain for industrial and hardware use. In 1963, Monogram Industries, a Los Angeles-based conglomerate, acquired National Screw and Manufacturing as a subsidiary, establishing Natco Fasteners in 1976 as awarehousing division for distribution of standard fasteners. A year later, Natco purchased Southwest Bolt and Nut Company, of St. Louis, as part of a plan to expand the Natco division. Natco Fasteners subsequently became a full-line standard and specialty fasteners distributor.
