Title

The Growing Field of Holographic Television

Description

Excerpted from the website:

The transition from conventional 2D television to 3D holographic television (Holotelevisions) will likely happen in two stages. The first stage will be holographically-enhanced 2D images projected onto a free-standing transparent screen. The second stage will be truly 3D holographic images projected in mid-air. Before further discussion of holographic innovation usages, we should evaluate the basics of how holographic illustrations are recorded in, and retrieved from, optical media. In order to record and retrieve a meaningful holographic picture, the intersecting illumination beams must be “coherent.” Coherent rays are ones in which the illumination undulations are ordered and synchronized. Without coherence, one just gets the three-dimensional equivalent of the “white noise” that shows up on a television that is not tuned to a station. Lasers have coherent illumination waves and are generally used for holographic technology. Generally an isolated laser beam is split through a semi-reflective mirror into the signal beam and reference shaft to ensure synchronization of the shafts.
