Explanation of Holographic Phones
Description
Excerpted from the website:
- Holocommunicators are a generic category of communication device that includes cellphones, PDAs, virlinks, and workstations that incorporate holographic technology. Before further discussion of holographic technology uses, we should review the basics of how holographic images are recorded in, and retrieved from, optical media. In order to record and retrieve a meaningful holographic likeness, the crossing light beams must be “coherent.” Coherent shafts are ones in which the light waves are ordered and synchronized. Without coherence, one just gets the three-dimensional equivalent of the “white noise” that materializes on a television that is not tuned to a station. Lasers have coherent light waves and are customarily used for holographic technology. Generally a solitary laser shaft is split through a semi-reflective mirror into the signal shaft and reference ray to ensure synchronization of the shafts.
