Description
THE HISTORICAL RESEARCH AGENCY has been established by Kate Spiers, an arts graduate with over eight years experience working with historical documents, initially at Oxfordshire County Record Office and then within the fields of publishing, academia and media. She has undertaken a wide variety of research projects using sources such as Cabinet Papers and parish records, architectural plans, tithe maps and personal diaries.
Kate has also used archive material as a basis for articles published in The Countryman, the national countryside magazine. Features have included Beckford’s Tower near Bath and the National Trust’s Chastleton House in Oxfordshire. She worked as a television researcher for Channel 4’s documentary Green and Pleasant Land and specialises in researching all aspects of the British countryside including country house history, regional architecture and rural life.
Before the mid-18th century, the majority of historical documents were written in Latin. Where source material calls for translation or interpretation, the Agency works with Dr Nick Barratt, a London based Medieval Historian.
