Description

On January 7, 2003, Amy Klobuchar was sworn in to serve her second four-year term as the Hennepin County Attorney. She was re-elected in November 2002 with no opponent. Klobuchar is a past president of the Minnesota County Attorneys Association.

The mission of the Hennepin County Attorney is to protect the rights and safety of people in Hennepin County. The County Attorney administers an office of more than 400 employees, including 160 lawyers, and serves as the chief prosecutor of all adult felony and juvenile crimes in Hennepin County. The County Attorney is also responsible for advising the Board of Commissioners and all county departments, as well as representing the county government in civil lawsuits, child support matters, child protection actions and mental health commitments.

As County Attorney, Klobuchar has emphasized accountability - making the County Attorney's Office more accountable to the public and the communities of Hennepin County, as well as making sure that people who break the law are held accountable for their actions and receive appropriate consequences.
