About the company and its history

Founded in the year 1985, Health Net is headquartered in Woodland Hills, California. The company started out as Qual-Med, a tiny HMO with 7,000 members in southern Colorado. The company was formed by Dr. Malik Hasan and his wife Seeme Hasan. Dr. Hasan acquired Health Net which was earlier a non-profit organization in a series of talks with Roger Greaves. Roger Greaves agreed to merge with Dr. Hasan’s company in August, 1993 at a value of $725 million to create one of the biggest publicly traded health care companies. The company provides health plans and benefits to approximately 6.7 million individuals across the country through plans such as group plan, individual plan, Medicaid plan, Medicare Plan, TRICARE and Veterans affairs programs. The company’s subdivision MHN also provides mental health benefits to about 7 million individuals in all fifty states. The company’s subsidiary companies also offered products related to prescription drugs.
