About Us

Founded by the eponymous Harold Moores in 1978, our specialist record store is located in the heart of London's West End. An inspiration to a wide spectrum of artists, the store is described by Vikram Seth in his novel An Equal Music as "a Dickensian haven" for lovers of classical music, and the jazz singer and pianist Errollyn Wallen's debut CD single is called "Meet me at Harold Moores". The shop has many high profile customers from the media, entertainment and music worlds who enjoy its discreet period ambience and the old-fashioned, personal service which they and all customers receive from our experienced, dedicated staff whose knowledge of foreign and domestic catalogues, past and present, is probably unrivalled.

Adventurous stock of CDs

We hold thousands of new and second hand CDs in stock and can order other titles as needed from our specialist suppliers around the world. We are particularly strong in new releases, great historical performances, contemporary music and unusual repertoire.

Europe's finest collection of LPs

The most unusual feature of our business is our world-renowned stock of 80,000 LPs which attracts a constant flow of visitors from around the globe, as well as a great deal of mail order correspondence. We offer a special finder's service and may well hold enquiries for many years trying to find the most elusive wants. We do not give up! Our LP stock is made up of 70% classical and 30% other categories including Films, Shows, Nostalgia/Personalities, traditional, Jazz, popular singers and light orchestral.
