German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley (GSRSV) is a group of individuals dedicated to finding good homes for "at risk" German Shepherd Dogs--particularly those confined at area animal shelters and possibly facing euthanasia. All German Shepherd Dogs in the GSRSV program are either spayed or neutered. GSRSV was formerly the rescue program of the German Shepherd Dog Club of Sacramento Valley, Inc., but as of February 1, 2001, GSRSV is an independent rescue group.
GSRSV is essentially a "fostering agency." We are not a shelter, and though we do have a facility to keep numerous rescued dogs, we do not have the means to accept dogs on a "drop off" basis. GSRSV rescues German Shepherd Dogs from "at risk" situations and places them at either its rescue facility or in temporary foster homes. "At risk" situations include shelter confinement, abusive homes, and homelessness. Foster caretakers provide rescued dogs with the love, care, and (sometimes) training that they need to make a smooth transition to a permanent home with a new owner. All foster caretakers are volunteers.
At present, there are considerably more German Shepherd Dogs confined at area shelters than we have foster homes. This is why it is so important for us to build our network of foster caretakers. If you are interested in becoming a foster caretaker, please let us know!
