Background
Greaterlafayetteonline.com was launched on March 11, 2002. Michael Ward of Crawfordsville, Indiana created the site for those who live in Tippecanoe and Montgomery Counties to visit and to serve as the "Community hub of Information".
The site was created to compete with Lafayette-Online.com (launched in 1995), which Ward erroneously believed was not a locally run site and would be at a disadvantage when a "true" local site was an option for local businesses.
GreaterLafayetteOnline.com operated for less than two years. The domain name was allowed to expire in October of 2004, at which time it was re-registered by Carolyn Shelby of Lafayette-Online.com.
