Good News Daily

Is there a lack of good things happening in the world or have we just become so cynical that we think all news is bad? Actually you might be surprised to learn that only 1 in 100 newsworthy stories are bad. The media simply still believes that we have a never ending thirst for dirty laundry and people across the world are beginning to tell them it's simply not the case anymore. In fact, even such groups as CNN, are beginning to focus more on the positive. Thousands of news channels would have billions of people believe the world is going to the dogs with every news item they see or hear. For GoodNewsDaily.com, it's hardly a matter of seeing the glass half empty or half full, it's one of denying there exists a glass at all! Good News Daily has, as its aim, the publishing of good news from around the world. The idea that you should feel "good" about what is happening in the world around you is beginning to take hold in a very big way!

"The Butterfly Effect"

Surveys show however, that most people are in fact tired of the daily onslaught of bad news pushed down their throats each day. This makes people feel bad about the world around them and life in general. Good News Daily, therefore, culls the bad news out, which everybody else is focusing on and brings the good news to light. As the famous saying goes, "Butterfly flapping its wings in Japan will cause a hurricane on the other side of the world," Good News Daily believes we can also start a butterfly effect which will eventually make people feel good about their lives, good about life and we can begin to heal this planet in a big way.

History of Good News Daily

Good News Daily was started in 1995 by Paul and Celerina Gerstenberger. The reason he felt compelled to start it was, he says, "I simply got tired of bad news. Seems each day you get up and turn on the news and it is no longer "news" it is "olds" Old, tired, same, bad news and dirty laundry. Murder, death, bombs and crime in general is what they lead with each and everyday." Ninety percent of the news stories are basically the same from day to day. "I also had a friend in Hong Kong who said to me," Paul continues, "that he had stopped reading the news in the morning with coffee as it made him "feel" bad the rest of the day." There was another incident around that time that he found utterly shocking: "There was a man in Denver Colorado who shot a bunch of people at a grocery store and it ended when an older man stepped out from behind the dumpster behind which he was hiding and ran over 50 feet to jump on the gunman and stop it all. In the Denver Post was about 3 full pages on the killer and a single paragraph about the man who saved others' lives by taking a big chance with his own. I decided it was time for this to stop so I started GND." Paul and his wife started it just as a public service. They started getting up three hours before work everyday to find and post all of the good news they could find. Good News Daily now has people from all over the world sending in good stories daily. "There are actually 99 good stories for every one bad," Paul says, "and our intent is to tell the world that things are really not so bad and start a Butterfly effect of something positive."

Community Involvement

Good News Daily strives to be a place where community people can participate to share the good news they have from around the world. Anybody can post their own good story for the Good News Daily Readers to read. They also ask people to submit thier own comments on stories already posted. You can read thousands of them on the site. People like Kevin Smith say "Thank you GND. I now have a new home page. I know that because of you, my life will be happier and my career brighter; because it takes positive energy to change in positive ways. Please keep it up! I look forward to starting my days with you! by Kevin Smith (2007-01-14 17:37:27)

Thank you for this site. I have been getting so fed up with all the pessimism from the major news sources. They thrive on the bad news; it is good to see somebody sifting through the depressive stories to highlight what is good in the world.

As I was surfing the internet this morning it dawned on me that all the major news websites have mostly bad news in the spotlight. And then it came to me to search for "good news". I am so happy to have come across this website because it restores my faith in this world that there are GOOD stories to tell. Thank you for giving me a vacation from all that is bad. I will make it a point to visit this site on a daily basis. Sending you good thoughts...
