Additional Information

[Goldendoodle World]( www.goldendoodleworld.com) is a terrific Goldendoodle resource center for comprehensive, educational as well as extensive Goldendoodle and other canine information. Goldendoodle World is one of the original Goldendoodle founders in the United States. Their diligent research about the Goldendoodle allows those on a doodle quest to locate a low shedding, low dander, terrific family oriented Goldendoodle! Goldendoodles come in all sizes and colors to include eyes that are brown, green, amber, blue as well as multi colored. Goldendoodles can come in parti colors, phantom colors or tri colors very similar to the Poodle.

The newest hybrid to hit the United States in and about 1997 and what is now being described as the best kept secret for a family pet, is called the Goldendoodle. What is a Goldendoodle you ask? A Goldendoodle is a hybrid who has one parent a Poodle and one parent a Golden Retriever. This hybrid has been steadily growing in popularity and while many are appalled at the idea of a Goldendoodle, others are jumping for joy! So much erroneous information about the Goldendoodle can be located on the internet, just about anywhere! Much of it is created by inexperienced breeders or those who haven't done their homework where the Goldendoodle is concerned. We have been a Goldendoodle breeder since 1999 and BEFORE we even were aware there was an actual name to the hybrid. We originally called our pups "Curly Goldens" and that was in 1999. We only conceded to calling our "Curly Goldens", Goldendoodles, because we did our research and discovered that the Aussie breeders had originally come up with the idea. We honestly HAD the idea but never knew others did too! Only after creating our first litter and advertising the pups, were we aware that Australian breeders called them "Goldendoodles". The Goldendoodle dog is a very hardy and healthy dog when created the proper way. That means, first generation only. So many breeders are backbreeding Goldendoodles and doing so much criss-crossing that god only knows where the doodle adventure will eventually wind up!

When the Goldendoodle hit the popularity peak in 2003, many inexperienced breeders jumped on the doodle bandwagon. Many purchased Goldendoodles from breeders such as myself and bred them without permission. They decided they were going to create Goldendoodles by breeding them together...ie..Goldendoodle to Goldendoodle. This is completely the INCORRECT method and does not create Goldendoodle offspring from a genetic standpoint. Other breeders have gone so far as to keep a Goldendoodle puppy from the litter they created and BACK-BRED it to the Poodle parent. Their claim is and was that the BACK-BRED Goldendoodle was now a hypo-allergenic and NON shedding dog! All a sales tactic, my friend! With our society being what it is today, of course many people scout for the ever elusive NON shedding, hypoallergenic dog. While we do agree that it's okay to breed a Goldendoodle to a Poodle that is NOT closely related to the Poodle within the Goldendoodles DNA structure, this method should only be used by the breeder to see a wider variance in color. It has also been our experience that when a Goldendoodle is bred to a Poodle that is not closely related to the Poodle within the Goldendoodle's DNA structure, litters are easier to type. It has been our experience that when a Toy Poodle is bred to a Golden Retriever, although one can achieve much smaller doodles, the temperament suffers in the offspring. It is best to breed a small Goldendoodle to a small Poodle that is not closely related. This gives the offspring a much improved temperament, thicker coat and the offspring has more ability to stay closer in size. The coat is still low shedding. Out of two litters produced by us using this method of breeding, it was our experience that several had loose curls about their coat while the remainder had a shaggy/wavy coat. None had a tight, curly coat even though the offspring had twice the poodle.

There is absolutely no advantage, whatsoever, at back-breeding any dog or inbreeding it for that matter. Hence, why so many purebred dogs of today have so many genetic flaws. It also caused us to wonder why people would fall for the sales tactics used by such breeders and actually believe it to be true when the breeders themselves did NOT have any sort of genetic certificates and definitely had no authority in genetics, period. We came to the conclusion that many fell for these sales tactics because they desperately wanted a hypoallergenic, nonshedding puppy for their child or themselves who had severe allergies and they wanted to believe it.

When bred correctly (first generation only), most of your first hybrid crosses are much healthier because they are NOT in-bred or line-bred or back-bred to their cousins, fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers. The Goldendoodle has worked out, so far, very well for those who suffer from allergy issues. First generation Goldendoodles shed very little, but they do have many coat phases that they go through and we discuss the Goldendoodle at great length on our personal website at http://www.goldendoodleworld.com Our OFFICIAL GOLDENDOODLE WEBSITEat www.goldendoodleworld.com discusses many facts about the Goldendoodle right down to the coat, changes, sizes, and the Miniature hype going around. We also offer Grooming advice and so much more, to the new doodle owner. Goldendoodles work out great for many people who suffer from allergies, but a breeder is no authority on telling an allergy sufferer that they could definitely own a Goldendoodle and never have an allergy issue. Some people with allergies may be okay at one phase of the coat changes and not okay during other coat changes and phases. Some never have issues at all during any coat change and phase while others may be affected. Every allergy sufferer, suffers differently.

Because we have spent many years doing alot of research where hybrids are concerned, we have placed alot of our experience on our site for the general public. Make sure to contact us if you are interested in owning a spectacular dog! We ship all over the world! Our GOLDENDOODLE PLANET is also the best place to view tons of Goldendoodle photos, great canine links, general canine information, as well as educational information about canine skin diseases and oher canine issues. Over the years, we've had 2 Goldendoodles featured in magazines. Lucky and Sonny. Nearly all of our Goldendoodle sales are by referral. It is not at all uncommon for people to see one of our Goldendoodles out and about in public, fall in love and then want one of their own.

While there now may be a Goldendoodle breeder on every street corner, it is very important to weed out those who are not that experienced. It is easy to tell an inexperienced doodle breeder by some of the terms they use.

  • FULL BLOODED: All dogs are full of blood...hence, they would otherwise be dead! The proper term is "Purebred".
  • FLEECE, WOOL OR WOOLEY COAT: such terms should be left to camels, goat and sheep! Not Goldendoodles. The correct terms are "Flat coat"; "Wavy coat"; "Shaggy Coat"; "Shaggy/wavy with loose curls" or "Shaggy/wavy".
  • LEMON, YELLOW, TAN, GOLD OR BROWN: These particular terms for colors do not pertain to the Goldendoodle. The correct colors are "APRICOT (light or dark), RED, WHITE, CREAM, SILVER, SILVER FROST, BLACK, SILVER PHANTOM, CHOCOLATE, CHOCOLATE PHANTOM, ALL PARTI-COLORS AND ALL TRI-COLORS."
  • Rare markings or rare colors: This one is particularly funny to me when I see a Goldendoodle breeder advertising Goldendoodles as having a "rare" marking or color. Poodles have a huge array of colors within their lineage that include parti and tri-color...there is no such thing as a "rare" marking or color where the Goldendoodle is concerned. Any breeder using this term with Goldendoodles has not completed their 101 class in Goldendoodles or completed any Pedigree research on their own Poodles.
