Gift Cents Scrip, Inc., a New York based corporation, was created in 1997 by two friends who were volunteering together to do fundraising for their favorite non-profit organization. They found a way to enable their supporters to raise money by using gift cards and gift certificates as their fundraising tools. Their efforts were successful because they asked their participants only to buy what they would normally buy, and spend what they would normally spend.
