Description
Geologic Desires is owned and operated by, myself, Michael Walter. The business is a part- time activity and outgrowth of my obsession with minerals and their crystals. My education began with a Bachelors degree in geology from the State University of New York in rural northern New York State. A Masters degree and 32 credits of Doctoral work have helped to prepare me for my real job. My full- time work is as a teacher of earth science and geology at a small school here in northern New York.
When I am not at home it likely has something to do with minerals. Field collecting occupies the majority of the summer while weekends are often spent at shows or on buying trips. I work very hard at obtaining the best minerals available at affordable prices. I believe damage should be nonexistent or minimal while the aesthetics of the specimen should be the highest available. Keeping these ideals in mind has produced a strong base of dedicated customers whom I value. Without their loyalty I would not have the desire to do anything more than be a happy collector of mineral specimens. Unlike others I do not have to make a living (thankfully) from selling minerals. It gives me great personal satisfaction to help other build collections that make them proud. Don't be afraid to share your "wants list" and budget constraints with me. Like many dealers I am buying old collections and hitting the major shows at locations such as West Springfield, Mass. and Tucson, AZ. In my travels I can keep an eye out for material that could help you with those hard to fill gaps in your collection.
I am available to speak at shows and occasionally at club meetings. You will also find me volunteering my speaking services and guiding field trips for clubs and larger organizations such as the New York State Geological Association, Eastern Federation of Mineral and Lapidary Societies and Rochester Mineralogical Symposium.
