Carol Barrett and Bonny Novesky are jewelry designers with a flair for combining semi-precious stones and antique artifacts discovered around the world to create exceptional pieces.
Their business, Gemini, began when the two friends discovered their mutual affinity for Asian art. On their first trip together to Hong Kong in 1989, they found they enjoyed hunting through out-of-the-way antique shops and combing open-air markets to find artifacts of unusual origin and artistry. Since then, their travels have taken them through China, Thailand, Indonesia, Borneo, Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal. Sometimes communicating through gestures and an interpreter with the merchants they encounter, they meet people who are often as fascinating as the pieces they find.
Returning home from their first trip, Barrett and Novesky each began fashioning necklaces from the treasures they had collected. As they started to wear their one-of-a-kind pieces, they received overwhelmingly positive responses wherever they went. They knew they were onto something: expertly crafting jewelry that incorporates human history and warmth for the women of today.
