Garlic Press Publishing Ltd was founded in 2001 to produce our first book, Liverpool: the first 1,000 years. The company’s directors are Arabella McIntyre-Brown and Guy Woodland; the pre-press team (designers, writers, proofreaders, illustrators etc) working on book production are all based in Liverpool and Merseyside.

Why Garlic Press? Arabella explains: “When I was learning to draw in 1992, we were asked to bring in a kitchen implement to draw. I chose a garlic press and as I was drawing it thought what a great name it would be for a publishing house. One day.....”

was born in Karachi and lived in Australia, Ethiopia, Portugal and Brazil before studying photography in England and moving to Liverpool in 1979. An award-winning photographer, he lives in Prenton (Birkenhead) with his wife and two sons. He has also published Stephen Broadbent: Sculptor, The Life of Liverpool, The Life of Chester, Chester Gateway and The Fool on the Hill (in association with Praxis Publishing).
