Title

GAMA, The Global Arbitration Mediation Association

Description

Mrs. Read is a 1988 graduate of the University of Louisville Law School where she was the Pirtle Washer Moot Court Competition Winner and a 1989 graduate of Emory Law School's Masters in Litigation program. She became involved in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) through her construction litigation practice in the early 90's. Subsequently she received extensive training in ADR and founded GAMA in 1995 as the world's first on-line ADR forum. Mrs. Read has continued as president and CEO of GAMA since its inception, overseeing the redirection of the company’s business from an ADR forum to its present form as a searchable Internet Directory of arbitrators and mediators. Mrs. Read is the author of several articles, including "Pushing the Advertising Envelope: Building Bill Boards in the Sky Along the Information Superhighway," published in the Winter 1996 Edition of the Western State Law Journal and "Come to the Table”, published by www.maturespirit.com. When not overseeing GAMA, Mrs. Read stays busy in her legal practice and was recently selected by a local newspaper to receive the 2003 Reader’s Choice Award for Best Attorney. She is also the mother of three children and the wife of Richard Read, who serves as District Attorney of Rockdale County, Georgia.

GAMA's shareholders and board of directors include Kevin L. Brown, CFO, Senior Vice President and CFO of Harman/Becker, Kathleen Vrona, formerly of World Wide Access of Chicago, and the Honorable Judge William Schneider of Rockdale County Juvenile Court.

GAMA was founded as a means to facilitate the process of neutral selection, especially in cases where the disputants live far apart or cannot agree on a choice for an arbitrator or mediator. The mediation.com and arbitration.com e-directories allow parties to view neutrals' profiles, contact information, and a variety of qualifications to ensure that the neutral selected is the best possible candidate for the job. The site's partnership with www.youdrawstraws.com further assists disputants in choosing a neutral by ensuring that the neutral be randomly selected from a list of possible candidates. This program also allows parties to randomly select the location, date, and time that the arbitration or mediation will take place, increasing participants' confidence in the impartiality of the process and leading to higher over-all satisfaction with the outcome.
