Gloucester Area Astronomy Club (GAAC)
Description
The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club is an informal, loosely-structured group. Some members have telescopes or binoculars, some do not, but all share an interest in the night sky. The only club bylaw states that if we ever come up with a formal constitution or bylaws, they must fit on one side of a standard 3X5 card. We had such a card at one point, but no one can remember where it is.
Meetings are held monthly. Some feature speakers from area groups such as the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, or from Astronomy departments at some of the colleges & universities in the greater Boston area, and some meetings are more hands-on events led by local observers. All feature coffee, cocoa, & home-made baked goods.
GAAC holds a special-use permit at a local state park, where we observe on clear weekend nights in the surprisingly dark skies of Cape Ann.
