Free Searching came about in 1998, because of my need to have a handy list of website favorites. I spent a lot of time locating "these websites." Yet I found them inaccessible at times for a variety of reasons (site was down, technical difficulties, software upgrades or just too many people using the site). When this happened, I'd have to spend the time to locate another link on the same subject or just wait until later. Even in 2005 search engines can return more than a million results for a request. I know neither you nor I can sift through a thousand results never mind a million or more. This makes directory sites like FreeSearching more valuable than ever. You can browse through FreeSearching in seconds, to find whatever you are looking for. People visit FreeSearching weekly and even daily to find just what they need. We're sort of their personal favorites/bookmark website.

Eventually, I bookmarked multiples of each category in my Favorites (in Internet Explorer). Using these groups of similar bookmarks gave me a ready pool to draw upon should any site be unavailable. This made surfing the web a lot easier for me. (Sure, there were the Search Engines, but the results they turned up were inconsistent, far too many to view and sometimes just unrelated to the search term).

I soon had friends asking for my favorite files. In 1998, without knowing any thing about web page building, I bought the domain name FreeSearching.com. One friend offered me an old copy of Front Page 97 and I began working on the site you see now called FreeSearching.
