Description
The Beta Gamma Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau is comprised of a diverse group of men who have common goals in their collegiate career: to do well in school, and to have a good time while doing it. The diversity of the house makes the bond between the men stronger. No matter what needs to be done, chances are, there is somebody in the house who knows how to do it. This holds true when it comes to projects and organized events to questions with homework. Each of the members is here to study in his field of choice, but we also feel that a good time is in order every once in awhile. Aside from events such as philanthropies to help better the world in which we live, we also hold parties and date functions to help us socialize outside of the brotherhood.
The members of Phi Kappa Tau are also involved with many events related to the campus. We have members who serve on the Inter-Fraternity Council and other clubs or governing bodies. The house participates in all of the major intramural sports, including basketball, softball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee.
Our house was built in 1924, and the Phi Taus left their old house to move in in 1956. Our house has what is quite possibly the best location for a Greek house on campus, centrally located with easy access to any part of the university. The house has five stories, the lowest being our chapter room and our laundry room. The laundry room has two washers and dryers, and is for use without charge to the members. On that level is also our storage room. The next floor contains our game room, TV area, the woman's bathroom, some member rooms, our computer lab, and has access to our deck. The computer room has just gotten brand-new computers with money raised from our annual Mom's Weekend event, Ragin' Cajun. The game room, TV area and our large deck are often places of social gathering. The third level contains the president's room (he gets it all to himself, with his own bathroom), our formal living room, our dining hall, and our kitchen. Going up the stairs yet again, the majority of the member rooms can be found, along with the main bathroom. Each room usually has one to two occupants, and they have total control as to how to decorate. Each room also has high-speed access to the internet through the university's servers , and use is free to the members of the house. Most members don't choose to sleep in their rooms, although it is an option, instead, they choose to utilize the fifth floor of the house, which is the sleeping porch. We have two sleeping porches - the loud, and the quiet. To some the loud may be more fun, but for those who appreciate a good night's sleep, the quiet is 24 hour quiet.
