Title

The Political Economy of Football - Football Finances and Statistics

Description

This site is an expansion from Wyn Grant's original pages at Tripod which was composed of a series of articles about the environment, culture and finances of Football.

The Tripod pages were themselves originally established to commemorate the flotation of Charlton Athletic Football Club on the Alternative Investment Market in March 1997. So much was also happening outside the UK that further material was amassed for a World Soccer Page.

One investment manager was quoted in the Financial Times as saying, 'The fans are more short-term than anyone in the City. If the team loses three games on the trot, they start complaining.' Different worlds indeed. These tensions have perhaps been more apparent at Newcastle than anywhere else and to read a discussion of them during 2002, click here Newcastle and the football business.
