It’s FoodPlay Productions, an Emmy Award-winning theater and media organization using the magic of live theater and fun of juggling to turn kids into healthy eaters and wise consumers.
Founded in 1982 by Barbara Storper, MS, RD--a leader in the field of children’s nutrition--FoodPlay Productions has spread its message of good health to over three million schoolchildren across the country. With its three traveling theater shows, FOODPLAY and Lil' Red Ridin' Thru 'Da Hood for elementary schools, and This Is Your Life! for middle and high schools, FoodPlay Productions hopes to counter the increasingly poor eating and exercise habits of the nation’s youth.
In additional to theater shows, FoodPlay Productions also produces curriculum materials, DVDs, and fun tools for turning kids on to healthy habits. Their latest publication is a new children's book called Janey Junkfood's Fresh Adventures! (2008).
According to recent surveys, the nutritional status of today’s youth is at crisis proportions--obesity has become the nation’s #1 health epidemic among children, doubling in the past twenty years. Today, one child out of four is overweight; one quarter of the nation’s children already show signs of high cholesterol; 50% are physically unfit; and poor body image and eating disorders are at an all-time high.
