FHGRR is a full service rescue dedicated to providing rescue and necessary veterinary care for unwanted, neglected, abused, homeless, and displaced golden retrievers. We strive to place our goldens in forever homes where they will receive a lifetime of love and care.
We are a small, volunteer-staffed group, run by a board of directors dedicated to finding new permanent, loving homes for pure-bred Golden Retrievers in need. We mainly serve the upstate area of SC but can extend to surrounding areas such as western North Carolina and eastern Georgia if we have the resources. We emphasize mental and physical rehabilitation and placement in the best home possible for each dog.
A golden enters our program through owner release or abandonment, many times in cooperation with a shelter or vet. The dogs are fully vetted, brought up to date on all required vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and heartworm tested and put on preventative, then they are placed in a volunteer foster home. The dog's temperament and personality are evaluated, and they are accessed for their compatibility with other dogs, cats and children so that the proper type of home, from our approved adoption candidates, may be chosen for them. Many of our foster homes are experienced trainers, and our dogs learn some basic obedience and house manners while in their care.
