Fern Gulch Canine Services
Description
Sandy Deveney, a licensed detective, owns Fern Gulch Canine Services. Deveney graduated from Penn State University in 1970 with a degree in Law Enforcement and Corrections. Following graduation, the U.S. Customs Service employed him. In 1972, Deveney began a 28-year career with PECO Energy as a criminal investigator. In 1987, he was responsible for establishing a drug detection dog program for PECO. He has handled drug detection dogs since 1988. He is certified as an advanced handler and trainer/supervisor for drug detection dogs. Recently, Fern Gulch Canine Services was incorporated to continue the dogs’ efforts in detecting illegal drugs, following his retirement from PECO.
Located in the Seven Mountains area, just east of State College, PA is the corporate namesake. As a Penn State graduate, a personal goal was to own a property near the University to provide a location for sporting events, mentoring sessions, and outdoor activities. As the property is nestled in a narrow gap and the predominant flora are ferns, the property was named Fern Gulch. When the corporation was formed, the name was adopted for business purposes. As business has expanded into Central Pennsylvania, the property also serves as our regional office.
