Carter L. Wilson III was born in Washington, D.C. Son of a career naval officer, he has traveled the world, including every state and territory of the United States. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (1966 - 1970) and retired after 36 years of service with the Federal government and currently works full-time in genealogy and related fields.
With more than 36 years of research experience, Mr. Wilson is an author, publisher, educator and lecturer. He was appointed by Gov. Dirk Kempthorne as a member of the Idaho State Historical Records Advisory Board, for a term expiring 2007. Mr. Wilson is a board member of the Idaho Genealogical Society where he holds a lifetime membership. He also holds a lifetime membership in the Eastern Washington Genealogical Society, and memberships in numerous other societies. He is a Research Associate for MyAncestors.com, a former member of the Advisory Board for Everton's Family History Magazine and webmaster for the Idaho Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
