Title

The Transplant Center at Fairview-University Medical Center

Description

The University of Minnesota transplant program's commitment to helping people live longer, healthier lives began in 1963, when its first kidney transplant was performed. The University’s transplant program quickly became known as the place willing and able to take on difficult, complex cases — including high-risk, extremely young and older recipients. During the past 35 years, the transplant programs have expanded to include all abdominal organs.

By 2003, more than 6,000 kidney transplants and 9,600 total transplants have been performed by University of Minnesota physicians, with excellent success rates in each program.

Transplant services began in 1963 at the University of Minnesota with the successful transplant of a living donor kidney. The partnership of the Academic Health Center at the University of Minnesota, University of Minnesota Physicians and Fairview Health Services has, since 1997, continued to provide innovative approaches to transplant care.
