In 1983 when the Ghanaian government decided to take up an offer from their Cuban counterparts, little did anyone know that it would change hundreds of lives forever. Hundreds of young Ghanaian kids made the journey thousands of miles across the Atlantic ocean to their new home, where most of their present identities, professions and personalities were born and brewed. ESBEC (Escuela Secundaria Basica En El Campo) was the acronym for all Cuban Secondary schools based in the fields and where students were expected to 'work and study'. Our school happened to be number 22.
This website is an extension of the bitter sweet affair we had with Cuba, especially with the Isle of Youth. Like with every experience in life, there were great times and bad times...the former we cherish, the latter we long to erase from our memories but the aim of this website is to help perpetuate the greatest gift of all--the friendship, brotherhood and undeniable bond created among those who participated in the program in one way or the other.
