Emerge Diagnostics, The Electrodiagnostic Functional Assessment-Soft Tissue Management (EFA-STM) Program is a bookend solution that compares pre and post-loss data and is a recommended best practice to accurately distinguish compensable workplace injuries and/or exacerbation of pre-existing injuries from chronic, unrelated conditions. In addition employees receive better treatment for compensable conditions. EFA-STM is specifically designed for an employer’s current workforce as well as new hires and complies with all ADAAA and EEOC regulations. This program involves a pre-injury soft-tissue assessment of existing and newly hired workers in order to obtain an objective baseline for any future MSD injury claims. When a post-injury EFA is compared to the baseline results, objective evidence determines if there is an acute injury arising out of the course and scope of employment. If no change is documented, there is no claim. This ensures employers are protected against claims of discrimination for disability. By establishing the condition of a new employee at the time of hire, the program eliminates the need for a POET (Post-Offer Employment Testing). The jurisdictional mandate of workers’ compensation requires employers to be liable for bringing the injured employee back to pre-injury condition. The baseline assessment accurately determines the pre-injury condition by providing objective medical evidence. Only injuries that arise out of the course and scope of employment are accepted. The value proposition for the EFA-STM Program is significant and will positively impact current direct and indirect costs, as well as potential future costs created by CMS Mandatory Reporting. The savings are derived from determining causation and “if an injury is related to or aggravated by” the date of injury. The objective findings using evidenced based medicine prevent costly misdiagnosis, unnecessary or inappropriate surgery, prolonged treatment periods and fraudulent claims.
