Electric Dreams

Description

Electric Dreams was born in 1992, when ex-pro slot car, full-size car and motorcycle racer Philippe de Lespinay realized that one of his many hobbies was getting out of control. In the 1960's Philippe was a successful racer, and ran the French Championship and several events of the Grand Prix circuit, the "Continental Circus" as it was called. Philippe became a works driver for the Kreidler Team France, then for Team Derbi-France.

During that time, Philippe won a large number of races with motorcycles he maintained and sometimes constructed himself. He was first to use a disk brake on the rear wheel of a motorcycle for road or racing use. Here he is shown at the famous Monthlery track near Paris, France, in 1965.

In 1967, while consulting for Heller, the French plastic model kit maker, he was exposed to the Revell line of slot car products and enthusiastically embraced the hobby. He was a member of the French team that defeated other European teams at the famous 1000KM race in Bad Godesberg, Germany, in 1968 with this car, powered by a MURA armature in a Buhler motor can. The car has survived, albeit with a different body.
