Title

Middlesbrough EiC Partnership

Description

The challenge is great because the population is so diverse. Children bring different qualities and experiences to school. Each boy and girl has different needs. But most parents want the same thing. They want schools which are high achieving, disciplined, provide a welcoming and safe environment and have an enabling outlook which nurtures the talent of each individual. They also want a wider range of opportunities than are currently available so that all the many and varied talents of their children are unlocked.

This means building on the rigorous strategy we are already putting in place to drive up standards. Already, we expect good strategic planning, demanding targets, rigorous inspection, innovative programmes, action on truancy and exclusion, targeted support and decisive action to tackle failing schools quickly. All of these are part of the Government's current standards agenda.

EiC is a targeted programme to bring additional resources to address the needs of our core urban areas. It brings a new approach that increases the diversity of provision for pupils but at the same time encourages schools to co-operate to raise standards; that extends learning opportunities for pupils of all abilities and, above all, starts with the needs of the individual pupil and the challenges they face.
