Description

About Us

The Environmental Illness Resource is the result of a wish to create one place where information on a number of related, and poorly understood, modern chronic illnesses could be presented. There are a number of great websites that provide excellent information on one, or a couple of these illnesses, but there was a need for a site covered more of them, as the information presented for one of them is often very useful for sufferers of some of the others. There have been a significant number of medical studies published that link two or more of the illnesses covered on this website. The links come in the form of similar or identical biochemical abnormalities and also in similarities in proposed causative factors. I feel it is important to highlight the links between these chronic modern illnesses as this can only increase the chances of effectively treating them all.

I personally was diagnosed with CFS/M.E. in 1991 at the age of 11 and my illness now involves all of those covered here except fibromyalgia, gulf war syndrome and autism. I wanted to create a website that would be of help to the multitude of people in a similar position. It seemed like the logical thing to do since I spend a lot of time researching the subject anyway in the hope of continually improving my own health. As these illnesses are a relatively new phenomenon and there is still much more to be learnt about them, I feel the best hope of regaining health for sufferers at present is through the sharing of information and experiences, and the internet provides the perfect tool for this.

I have recently been able to add custom news feeds to the site that provide regularly updated news stories published on the web regarding all of the illnesses covered on the site. There are also news feeds covering alternative medicine, nutrition and environmental issues. My aim is to constantly improve the site with new features, some of those currently in development include a searchable research abstract database that will be regularly updated with the latest scientific findings regarding environmental illnesses, a brand new interactive links resource that will allow visitors to add and rate links, and finally, an email newsletter that will provide research updates.
