The Economic Opportunity Institute is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, public policy institute, started in 1998, to define the policy debate on the issue of economic security. We focus on concerns shared by middle-class families and low-income workers. We see solutions to the problems people wake up in the night worrying about:
The Economic Opportunity Institute develops new public policies to create ladders for low-income people to move into the middle class and to plug holes so that middle-class families do not fall into poverty. EOI is an activist, progressive, and majoritarian institute. We pursue our work through media outreach, public dialogue, and policy initiatives that address the shared economic security concerns of middle-class and low-income workers.
Every year, we focus on several public policy proposals and create a dialogue with the citizenry about these proposals through an extensive media campaign. We are featured on radio talk shows, in television news, in magazines, and in daily and weekly newspapers. We design our messages to resonate in rural areas, the suburbs, and the cities―a key to our success.
